Overview

As its title indicates, La Mort du Cygne (The Dying Swan) is set in the special world of the ballet. Young dance student Rose Souris (Janine Charrat) idolizes her teacher-role-model Mademoiselle Beaupré (Yvette Chauvire), and will do anything to help Mademoiselle Beaupré further herself. Thus, when rival ballerina Nathalie Karine (Mia Slavenska) lands a much-coveted role, Rose arranges an accident causing Nathalie to break her leg. The girl comes to regret her rash behavior when it appears as though Nathalie will never dance again. The film is based on the 1933 short story "La Mort du Cygne" by Paul Morand. The choreography was done by Serge Lifar. It was remade in the United States as "The Unfinished Dance", released in 1947.
